With Day Without Speech, staff and students will be
challenged to give up speaking and communicate through
hand signals, writing and pictures.

Through this experience, staff and students learn what it is
like to have a communication difficulty, something
4% of Cambodians have. More importantly, they will learn
strategies to overcome communication disability and how
to better include people with communication disabilities.

The feedback from students and staff was positive, with staff saying that it enhanced learning in some ways with the students having to work more independently. Some staff and students are keen to make this a regular part of their learning.

The cafe staff really enjoyed the challenge. They communicated through hand signals and pictures, and lasted the whole two hours without speaking. Through the experience, the staff learnt what it is like to have a communication disability.
